My Story

Ever since I was a young girl I was always very curious about health. Well wait, let me back up. My relationship with food started when I was in high school. I went shopping with a friend and as we were passing clothes in fitting rooms I remember
I wasn’t able to fit into a pair of jeans she did. Looking back, she was 5 feet 3 inches and a totally different body type. Of course,
we wouldn’t wear the same size. After that day it was all a downward spiral. I became obsessed with trying new diets,
exercise and diet pills. As I moved on to college I thought here is my chance to become the thin woman I was meant to be.
Without my parents around making sure I ate complete balanced meals, I started a new diet for myself. I started running 5 miles
a day, eating a restrictive calorie diet and heading back to the gym to lift weights. I was working out for hours. Was I thin, yes. Was I happy, no! I didn’t have the energy to do anything with my friends, I became so restrictive with myself and my outings that I never left my dorm room. The thought of food consumed me because I restricted my self so much. Until one day I smelled cake my roommate made for my birthday. It was chocolate and peanut butter, my absolute favourite. I lost control and ate the entire cake that night, and pizza, and chips and I binged like that for weeks. I went from 120lbs to 155lbs in three months. When my parents came to pick me up to take me home for the summer, they didn’t recognize me. When I got home I committed to getting back on track and by that, I mean back to restrictive eating and exercising.
Fast forward a few challenging years. It’s been a journey since I met that woman. After having my two daughters, I realized that not only did I not want to pass on this type of behaviour to them but I also had to figure out a way to be healthier and happier on my own terms. And I did. Want to know how I did it? I chose me. I chose to put love and care into myself. I chose to focus on the exercise I enjoyed doing, not something I had to force my self to do. I chose to eat foods that made me feel good. Our body is our only tool. If we don’t give it be love and support it will not give back. Now I am a mother of three, and I need my self more than ever. That’s why I choose to make myself a priority, every day. Because I want to show up as the best the version of my self for my self and my family. I am healthier and happier now at 37 then I was in the 20s!
My holistic healing approach for health and wellness counselling is the same way I approach my own health. I work with women to help them discover the root reason they are not feeling healthy in their body and create a plan that is simple to implement into their busy lives. I believe it is the small changes we make every day that really create a big difference.
I take the struggle out of being healthy and help you ease your way into your new lifestyle. You do not have to feel overwhelmed at the thought of creating new habits, I am here to support you on your journey to your healthiest life where everything and anything is possible.
